PART 1: “On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate _______?”
In stressful situations, our emotional response can range from mild (1) to extreme (10). A more extreme response results in more ENERGY being drained from the body (which means less energy available for the things we love). Over time, stress takes a toll on those who mindlessly live in the upper extremes.
When I notice this tendency in a Client, I like to ask them, “On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate stress in relation to ___?” Let’s pretend they rate themselves a 7 in relation to stress with an employee. Then, I follow up with…
PART 2: “Ok, what’s one small thing you can do TODAY to lower your stress level to a 6?”
It’s Part 2 that surprises most people. They’re usually thinking a BIG problem requires a BIG change. This 2 Part question broadens their perspective to the potential impact of 1 tiny action step.
